Clarence Seedorf announced this week that he would be retiring as a player and taking up the newly vacant position of head coach at former club AC Milan.
His predecessor Massimiliano Allegri was sacked on Monday after a 4-3 defeat to minnows Sassuolo on Sunday, which left them a whopping 30 points off Serie A leaders Juventus and languishing in mid-table.
Seedorf left the San Siro in 2012 to take up a role at Botafogo that included some coaching alongside playing and said he could not turn down the chance of a return to Milan when offered the job of manager.
The seven-time European champions is quite a challenge for a first managerial post, but this has not been met with much incredulity, such is Seedorf's reputation for being a smart and knowledgable man.
