Manchester United are targeting Napoli midfielder Mark Hamsik in a bid to improve their midfield, having been rejected in their pursuits of both Paul Pogba and Arturo Vidal, according to sources in Italy.
Tuttomercatoweb claims that whilst United boss David Moyes was in Italy recently in order to talk to Juventus concerning the availability of more than one Juventus midfielder, it’s Hamsik who has now caught his attention.
The Slovakian, who has been described as 'priceless' by his manager, has enjoyed tremendous form with Napoli, having bagged himself 18 assists and 11 goals last year. This season the 26-year-old has seen his campaign blighted by injury but that hasn’t diminished United’s interest in bringing him to England.
The reports from Italy suggest that Moyes will attend a Napoli fixture in the near future in order to personally scout Hamsik, before deciding whether or not to approach Rafael Benitez with a proposal.
Benitez is known for his admiration of his playmaker and so it’s unlikely he will be ready to do business this month for anything less than a lucrative sum.
