£10m bid made for Manchester United target

Manchester United target Everton Ribeiro’s has been the subject of a failed bid from a Premier League club, according to the Daily Star.

The Brazilian playmaker has been on the Old Trafford radar for sometime now, and the Star is claiming that Cruzeiro’s director of football, Alexandre Mattos, has revealed that a top-flight English outfit made an attempt to sign Ribeiro, but that the club rejected it immediately.

Ribeiro is believed to have been targeted by David Moyes as the Scot looks to improve his midfield. With the chances of bringing in priority targets such as Atletico Madrid’s Koke and Borussia Dortmund’s Ilkay Gundogan looking slim this month, the 24-year-old is seen as a good back-up.

The bid made to the Brazilian club is thought to be around £10million, though the rejection highlights the fact that it will clearly take more to get him.

Mattos confirmed that a deal had been lodged, but was rebuffed without hesitation.

“An offer from England arrived yesterday and Cruzeiro turned it down immediately.

"Maybe an offer will come that will make Cruzeiro understand it would be a mistake not sell, but the important thing is knowing how to find a replacement of the same level."
