Neil Robertson scraped through to the quarter-finals of the Dafabet Masters, after edging out Mark Allen in an epic match at the Alexandra Palace.

The world number one did not lead at all in the contest as Allen had control throughout, but showed his grit and determination when it really mattered to seal his place in the last eight.

He will take on Ronnie O’Sullivan in what should be an absolute cracker on Friday.

It was the fourth consecutive Masters tournament that these two had gone head-to-head, with Robertson winning on the last two occasions.

Allen was looking for revenge and took the lead with a brilliant break of 114, before Robertson replied with a run of 46 along the way.

A couple of 30 breaks moved the Pistol back in front, but the UK Champion once again responded by taking a tight fourth frame on the black.

The next four frames were also shared, with the Aussie making a 101 in frame six and the Irishman knocking in a 65 in the seventh.

Allen moved one away from victory making a 52 along the way, but a scrappy tenth frame saw Robertson force a decider.

The final frame was one of missed chances, with Allen wasting a glorious opportunity through a lack of positioning. Robertson pounced and held his nerve with a run of 59 to secure his quarter-final berth.
