Liverpool v Aston Villa - Match Preview

Saturday afternoon's late kick off sees Aston Villa make the daunting trip to title chasing Liverpool.

The Reds' now infamous "SAS" partnership have scored more goals combined this season than over half the teams in the Premier League, following Daniel Sturridge's return to the side last weekend.

Luis Suarez bagged a brace in the game at the Britannia Stadium, whilst strike-partner Sturridge came off the bench to also put himself on the score-sheet.

Aston Villa languish in the bottom half of the table following their loss to Arsenal last week and can only match Liverpool's strike force with new signing Grant Holt and cult hero Christian Benteke.

Liverpool are just six points behind leaders Arsenal and need to be picking up points at home if they are to close the gap and keep themselves in the title race, but Villa are in better form away from home this season and could be a struggle for the Reds to overcome.

Team News

Brendan Rodgers welcomes back midfielder Joe Allen from an abductor problem with Mamadou Sakho in contention following a hamstring issue. Jon Flanagan, Jose Enrique, Daniel Agger and Sebastian Coates all remain on the sidelines.

Paul Lambert could hand a debut to striker Holt after he completed his loan signing from Wigan earlier this week, but Nathan Baker is absent after sustaining a concussion against Arsenal. Ryan Bertrand could feature after joining on loan from Chelsea.

Stats

The last three times these two sides have met, the away side has won.

Aston Villa have only won once in their last seven Premier League games.

Liverpool won the reverse of this fixture back in August with their only shot on target in the game.

Christian Benteke has scored three goals in his last three games against Liverpool.

Prediction

It's hard to look past Liverpool's deadly strike force in this one, as the two have been prolific at Anfield and Villa don't look like they have enough to combat it. Based on their away form, I do think they will score at least one goal though. I'm predicting 2-1 to Liverpool.
