A genius. A maestro. The puppet master. The best midfielder of his generation. There have been many superlatives written and said about Xavi Hernandez, and you can't disagree with any.
This week Xavi played his 700th official game for Barcelona, and I don't ever recall seeing him give the ball away once. Ok, maybe just the once.
His ability to retain possession, his vision to see a pass and then the ability to make it coupled with his supreme control have made Xavi the ultimate midfielder.
His partnership over the past few years with Andres Iniesta has been an absolute masterclass. The way they dictate the flow of a game is a delight to watch and without them, I don't believe Barca would have been as successful as they have been over the past five years.
Not only does Xavi hold the record number of appearances for, arguably, the best club side to ever play the game, he is also the most decorated Spanish player in history.
In total, Xavi has won:
7 La Ligas
3 Champions Leagues
2 Copa del Rey
6 Spanish Super Cups
2 European Super Cups
2 Club World Cups
2 European Championships
1 World Cup
1 Olympic Silver medal
I really hope the recent rumours of Xavi going to play in the US are false as he would be a massive loss, not just to Barcelona, but to European football in general.
Xavi Hernandez. I salute you.
