Harbaugh on top again - 2011

Following the symmetry of this rivalry the next key moment took place in 2011.

But by this time both coaches had made the step up to the NFL.

Pete Carroll had taken the head coaching job at the Seattle Seahawks in 2010, and a year later Harbaugh followed him into the big leagues - filling the vacancy at the San Francisco 49ers.

And what would you know in Week 1 Harbaugh's first ever game as a head coach in NFL would come against his old sparring partner Pete Carroll and the Seahawks.

After competing with Carroll in Pac-12, and finishing with a 2-1 record, Harbaugh got off to the perfect start in the NFC West division with a 33-17 win at Candlestick Park.

Considering Harbaugh reportedly told the 49ers CEO Jed York that he was ready to beat Carroll again when interviewing for the job, it seems like this victory had added significance for the new coach.

And for Carroll, defeat against a divisional rival on the opening day was an early blow for his Seahawks side.
