Every year the same rumour circulates and sends the internet wrestling community into a frenzy. The rumour surrounding wrestling legend Sting, and the possibility of him finally signing with the WWE.
Nothing has changed this year. The Road to WrestleMania is almost upon us and once more it seems as if the WWE are talking to Sting in the hope of singing him up to a deal. The WWE have attempted to bring in Sting over the last few years, but it seems nothing materialises in time for WrestleMania and they continue to fail. Perhaps this is the year.
Sting has not renewed his deal with TNA just yet and will be available for negotiations, but whether he chooses to go ahead and sign with the rivals remains to be seen. This could well be the year, Sting himself has said on a number of occasions that he has held positive talks with the WWE in the past and has said that both parties have come very close to striking a deal once or twice.
Sting is a legend in the wrestling business, but is a superstar who just needs to step foot inside the WWE ring at least once before he decides to call it a day. But, it would be a massive risk for his career and the legacy he has created.
There is no guarantee how the WWE will book him creatively. On paper it seems so clear, a match with The Undertaker at WrestleMania with the streak on the line. Two icons with only one man proving who the better legend is. There is a risk that bad booking could ruin Sting’s legacy though, as a minor gimmick change could even affect that.
Sting has cited this as a reason previously that he cannot guarantee how the creative will deal with his character and how he will be booked; so he stuck with the safer option of finishing his time in WCW and moving on and continuing his career at TNA.
With the WWE now changing the industry completely and taking it to a whole new level with the announcement of their upcoming WWE Network, the future of the business looks good. Whilst the TNA future is not as secure; if Sting was to make that final leap then the time would be now, even if it is a short-term deal.
There are a number of dream scenarios the fans are planning even at this early stage, but the obvious and most favoured scenario is that Sting challenges The Undertaker.
What do you guys think? Will the WWE finally pull off this coup? Or will this just fizzle out like it has done for the previous years? Let me know in the comments below...
