Mark Selby is through to his fifth Dafabet Masters final in seven years, after thumping Shaun Murphy 6-1 at the Alexandra Palace.

The defending champion had been taken to final-frame deciders by Mark Davis and John Higgins, but was in total control today as he remained on course to retain his title.

He came flying out the blocks and raced into a 2-0 lead with breaks of 86 and 104.

Runs of 50 and 33 made it three, before he wrapped up a perfect opening session with a break of 62.

A scrappy fifth frame then saw Selby go 5-0 up and one away from victory.

Murphy did manage to get himself on the scoreboard much to the appreciation of the Alexandra Palace crowd, but it proved a consolation as the Jester from Leicester wrapped up a comfortable win.

Selby will either face a repeat of the 2009 and 2010 final against Ronnie O’Sullivan on Sunday.
