Manchester United target in 'advanced' talks to sign new deal

Manchester United target Leighton Baines is close to signing a new deal at Everton, according to Sky sources.

Red Devils boss David Moyes was keen on bringing the Everton full-back to Old Trafford during the summer but failed to convince the Toffees into selling their prized asset.

Manchester United made a joint bid to sign both Baines and Marouane Fellaini in the summer, however the former decided to stay at Goodison Park while the latter sealed a deadline day move to the Premier League champions.

Moyes was expected to go back in for Baines either in January or at the end of the season, however the former Everton manager's hopes of landing the England international appear to have been dashed.

Reports suggest £15million-rated Baines is in 'advanced' talks with Everton over the possibility of signing a new long-term deal at the Merseyside outfit.

Moyes, who is desperate to find a long-term replacement for Patrice Evra, is now likely to intensify his interest in the likes of Fabio Coentrao or Luke Shaw.
