Manchester United haven't been the force that they usually are in the Premier League this year, and are lacking match-winning players.
The Red Devils are seventh in the league after losing 3-1 to Chelsea yesterday afternoon. This was their seventh defeat of the season, two more than they lost during the whole of the campaign last year.
David Moyes' side have only won once in 2014 in all competitions after losing three matches in a row before last weeks win over Swansea.
It is clear that this is a transitional period for United, who need to settle under Moyes after being managed by Sir Alex Ferguson for so long but they need to make at least one top signing in this transfer window because they are lacking quality in many positions.
With injuries to strikers Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney, United need to buy a forward as Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez seem to drift in and out of games and are inconsistent.
United have been linked with Juventus striker Mirko Vucinic, who is currently struggling for game time at the Italian giants.
Vucinic may not be the best striker Manchester United could sign but with their injury problems he would do a good job as he is a quality finisher.
The 30-year-old has scored two goals in eight appearances for Juventus this season.
Vucinic is a talented player who can play any where along the front line and is known for his good dribbling, creativity and his ability to score from long range with both feet.
The Red Devils also need a midfielder to play alongside Michael Carrick as players such as Tom Cleverley and Marouane Fellaini haven't lived up to their potential so far this season.
An ideal signing would be Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundagon. The 23-year-old who is currently sidelined due to a back injury is set to return in the coming weeks for Dortmund but would be perfect for United.
Gundagon is creative with an excellent shot and is a box to box midfielder. He would add a bit of class to the Red Devils' midfield which is much desired after recent games.
Lastly United should look into investing in a central defender. Nemanja Vidic is a top quality player but he needs held in his defence. Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans aren't good enough to play week in week out.
Benfica's Ezequiel Garay has been linked with the club from Manchester for some time and he seems to be a good buy.
The 27-year-old has made 16 appearances this season, scoring three goals. He has played in all of their games.
Benfica currently sit top of the Portuguese league table and have only conceded 12 goals all season.
