Arsenal have sent scouts to watch Senegalese international defender Pape Souare in action, according to reports.
The Daily Mail claims representatives from the Gunners were present at the Stade Geoffroy Guichard on Friday night, as Lille suffered a 2-0 defeat at Saint-Etienne.
Despite the defeat, Souare has generally impressed in Ligue 1 this term, scoring three times in 20 appearances for Les Dogues.
It’s form that’s alerted Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, who dispatched members of his team to get a closer look at the 23-year-old left back.
The Gunners aren’t particularly short of players in the position, with Kieran Gibbs and Nacho Monreal vying for first team opportunities at the Emirates Stadium.
Indeed, right back would appear to be a position of greater concern, with Bacary Sagna yet to sign a new contract and Carl Jenkinson the only cover for the Arsenal boss.
However, opportunities to strengthen aren’t always easy to find in January, and Wenger clearly believes Souare could be a good fit for the Gunners as they mount a challenge for the Premier League title.
