Serie A giants Inter Milan have today rejected a €7m offer for defensive linchpin Andrea Ranocchia from Borussia Dortmund, who according to Sky Sport Italia have been told their bid falls well short of the club's valuation of the Italian international.
Ranocchia has been consistently linked with a switch to Stamford Bridge over the last six months, with the versatile defender often left on the bench this season as Inter look to rebuild under Walter Mazzarri.
The 25-year-old is perennially mentioned in connection with some of Europe's leading lights but Dortmund are the first club to make their interest concrete, tabling a €7m bid that was swiftly knocked back by Inter last week.
Dortmund are desperate to ease their injury crisis in defence and will be back with a second bid for the centre-back before the transfer window closes, as Neven Subotic and Mats Hummels both face up to prolonged spells on the sidelines.
Chelsea still have time to act on their interest in the towering defender though, with Inter prepared to let the defender go for a fee around the €13m they accepted from Zenit St Petersburg last summer.
Zenit's offer may have got the green light from Inter but Ranocchia turned down a move, preferring to wait for the chance to stay in one of Europe's top leagues.
