Durant’s recent scoring form, culminating in his career-high 54 point haul during the win over the Golden State Warriors, has been nothing short of magical and many are now tipping him to oust James and become this year’s NBA MVP.
However, far from being jealous over his rivals’ recent form, the Miami Heat forward has revealed that he is relishing the challenge ahead of him.
“Nah, I ain't beyond that. I ain't beyond that at all," James said.
"I love when I see K.D. do something like that. It gives me an incentive. I don't get that many shots around here, but I might be able to do a little something. I might be able to get a couple of dunks."
This comes a short time after James admitted to being slightly envious over the amount of shooting Durant gets to do. Whilst James’ consistently high points tally can be slightly lessened by the fact that the Heat are a team of superstars, Durant is very much the star of the current Oklahoma City Thunder side.
It remains to be seen whether or not the in-form forward can maintain his startling record for this season. If he can, there’s no reason why he can’t halt James in his bid for a fifth MVP award.
