Last night, Martin Erat of the Washington Capitals came out with the absolute worst bush league plays i think hockey has seen for quite a while. And that takes some beating.
But when Brian Boyle fell on top of the puck, i'm sure he and the fans in attendance at Madison Square Garden didn't expect to witness what Erat did.
With the puck trapped under Boyle, and the play essentially over, the Capitals left winger violently stabs his stick at the Rangers players crotch.
Boyle screamed before keeling over and Erat was lucky to leave the rink without a barrage of punches from Boyle's outraged teammates.
“He kind of was, like, I didn’t mean to,” Boyle said, according to Bleacher Report. “He just probably regretted it after.”
Whilst we appreciate that the fixture has become a rivalry, there is no need to act in this manner. While the penalty will read as just a slashing, it will be remembered that what he did was far worse.
