Cornerback Sherman tipped San Francisco 49ers' quarterback Colin Kaepernick's fourth quarter pass resulting in a game-winning interception for the Seahawks. After the game Sherman made several disparaging comments about 49ers receiver Michael Crabtree.
"When you try me with a sorry receiver like Crabtree, that's the result you're gonna get. Don't you ever talk about me." said Sherman, "Don't you open your mouth about the best or I'm gonna shut it for you real quick."
Sherman also went after Crabtree and Kaepernick and taunted the beaten 49ers after the play resulting in a 10 yard penalty.
Carroll told ESPN radio in Seattle that he had spoken to Sherman about his behavior and called the incident 'unfortunate'
"It's unfortunate that it was so crazed, but that's who he is." Explained Carroll, "His mental make-up to get ready for that matchup was expressed right there so he could play the way he can play. Unfortunately, sharing with the world, it didn't come across so well."
Sherman has had a history of controversial comments since he entered the league in 2011. He has made enemies of broadcaster Skip Bayless, New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and his former Stanford University head coach Jim Harbaugh.
However this time Carroll said his defensive back star had gone too far."We try to stick to Rule No. 1, which is always protect the team," Carroll said. "It's the rule we live by. You always represent us. In a time like that one, it was a little bit representing yourself.
It is thought that Sherman will receive any further action from the team or the league for his actions at this time.
