Long-term Liverpool target Mohamed Salah has attracted fresh interest from Newcastle United as the race to sign the £12m Basel star continues to gather pace, according to Sky Sports.
Salah has been consistently linked with a January switch to Anfield in recent weeks, with Basel's wing wizard impressing admirers on Merseyside during a string of dazzling Champions League displays earlier this season.
Basel are yet to receive a concrete offer from the Reds for Salah and that dithering is thought to have alerted Newcastle that the playmaker is still up for grabs, with Sky Sports sources reporting the Magpies are weighing up a £12m offer for the Egyptian international before the current transfer window closes.
Newcastle are actively pursuing a number of transfer targets including Luuk de Jong and Remy Cabella, which means Liverpool are still Salah's most likely suitors if Basel receive a reasonable offer this month.
Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is thought to be waiting on final approval from Red chiefs before making his interest in signing Salah formal, while leading Premier League sides such as Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur have been mentioned in connection with the versatile forward earlier in the campaign.
