Boston Red Sox pitchers Koji Uehara and Junichi Tazawa met with U.S Ambassador Caroline Kennedy in Tokyo today as part of the team's diplomatic trip to Japan.

Former President John F Kennedy's daughter received the pair at the Embassy residence and praised the Japanese ace's part in the Red Sox World Series victory last fall.

"This is a great event," Kennedy said at the reception. "Last fall's victory would not have happened without these two players here tonight."

Kennedy has been in Japan since November, serving as the first female U.S ambassador in Japan.

During the trip to Far East, Uehara and Tazawa presented Prime Minister Shinzo Abe with a Red Sox jersey.

Ambassador Kennedy also praised the club's global outreach to Japanese fans of baseball:

"You and your players — past and present — are ambassadors of goodwill to millions of fans here in Japan," Kennedy said. "Thank you for continuing the great legacy of baseball diplomacy between our two countries."

In fact with so many Red Sox fans in Japan, could Boston be a realistic destination for Masahiro Tanaka?

The sought after Japanese ace is due to make his decision by Friday.
