Reports surrounding Juan Mata and a possible move to Manchester United have been growing by the day, with a potential £40 million pound bid looming according to the Daily Mail.

If all is true , this signing would ignite United's rescue mission in David Moyes's debut season at Old Trafford. However what with the Wayne Rooney saga back in the summer between the two club , this may complicate the deal or even cause  it to collapse.

Rooney's contract still hasn't seen a fresh dab of ink on it and with 17 months left there are fears he may simply run his contract down, allowing him to leave for free at the end of 2014/2015 season.

Manchester United need to address to both Rooney and the football world then that this isn't the beginning of the end as many pundits are jumping to conclude.

Acquiring Mata would not only save United from the unthinkable of not finishing in the top four but it would also create an entire new dynamic style for United to consider.

United's current squad as many know contains baggage; Anderson granted has gone out on loan but realistically he's unlikely to wear the United shirt again.

Nani is a player on his day adds flair and quality to United's attack but is too inconsistent and possibly he may be on his way. There are many others that have question marks above their heads ; Cleverly, Valencia and Kagawa all need to step up and prove to Moyes they are good enough or will be seeking pastures new.

Acquiring Mata would see United's formation and style change for the good . Michael Carrick has been a loyal and reliable servant in the midfielder under Fergie's regime and will continue to be under Moyes; the link between the defence (as extra cover) and intiating an attack by feeding the ball out-wide or to his centre-midfield partner. It's here where things can be shaken up.

Mata would be a regular at United obviously and would be seen in one of two roles ; CAM or LM. Playing at CAM would allow Rooney to play a bit more forward supporting Robin Van Persie. The wingers would be Adnan Januzaj on the left and Antonio Valencia on the right. So the formation would be a 4-1-3-1-1 with Mata occupying the middle of the three.

An attack of Valencia , Mata, Januzaj, Rooney and Van Persie is both an exciting and frightening prospect would you not say?  Don't forget there's Kagawa, Zaha , Welbeck and Hernandez too to come in as well.

Signing Juan Mata could potentially create an "Ozil Effect" at The Theatre Of Dreams. The fans would be thrilled and encouraged by the improved performance in the transfer market.

The team itself needs fresh blood and signing Mata would be a real statement of intent from David Moyes and Manchester United and really a message to the world that they're not going away anytime soon.
