If Juan Mata is available then David Moyes must move for him.
In a turbulent, tragedy of a season Moyes could turn it around by signing a player who only last season was indispensable for Chelsea.
He is popular amongst fans yet must move to Manchester to revive his dream of playing in the World Cup later this year.
And Manchester United, above the likes of Real Madrid and Paris St Germain, need him most.
The thought of Mata playing alongside Adnan Januzaj, Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie is mouth-watering.
When the latter duo return from injury it should see results and performances improve, with qualifying for the Champions League now their biggest priority.
He has created more chances than all of United’s central midfielders combined, with only Januzaj and Antonio Valencia boasting the same number of assists.
His arrival could also influence the future of Shinji Kagawa.
United could use the Japanese playmaker as bait in a summer move for Marco Reus of Borussia Dortmund, with Kagawa said to be keen on re-joining the German side after two unhappy years in Manchester.
Despite Chelsea’s interest in Wayne Rooney, the forward will not be part of any deal.
Other areas, such as the central midfield and left-back position, need examining but given Mata’s quality it is too good a transfer to turn down.
If Moyes did not move for the Spaniard it would be an opportunity missed.
He could be the difference between making the Champions League or facing the embarrassment of the Europa League.
Moyes’ career is on the line. Mata could matter come the end of the season.
