Chelsea told to name price for in-form star

Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone is willing to spend whatever it takes to sign Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois on a permanent contract, according to the Express.

Courtois, 21, signed for Chelsea in 2011 but has yet to play a single match for the Blues and is currently in his third loan spell at the Vicente Calderon.

The Belgium international has developed into one of the best goalkeepers in the world in the last two seasons, and Simeone is desperate to keep him.

When asked whether he would spend €26m on Courtois, Simeone replied: "Definitely. For me anything paid for Courtois would be cheap.

"He's a young guy who has a huge future and is on track to becoming one of the best goalkeepers in the world.

"Signing a goalkeeper of his calibre would be a big step, but it will not be easy.

"It depends on what Courtois wants, his club (Chelsea) knows our needs, but it is not up to us, because he is not our player."

Courtois has made it clear that he will not return to Stamford Bridge next season to sit on the bench as Petr Cech's understudy.

The 2012/13 La Liga Goalkeeper of the Year has proved his credentials and, understandably, feels he is good enough to be Chelsea's first-choice.
