Colombian cyclist Nairo Quintana will have his Tour de France fate decided by lead sponsor Movistar.
The climber finished second overall in last years Tour and picked up the King of the Mountains polka-dot jersey as well as the best young rider's white jersey.
Quintana was highly successful during 2013's Tour and this year much is expected from the young Colombian.
But whether or not Quintana will race for the Chris Froome's yellow jersey is reportedly up to the teams main sponsors Movistar.
The 23-year-old said, reports Cycling News: "I'm not playing tactics. I've got to decide what the sponsor wants to do, because they're the ones who pay and so their interests decide things.
"I'd like to ride the Tour because it’s the Tour but the Giro route suits me better. I think Unzue (the Movistar team manager) agrees with me but Movistar will have the last word."
The Columbian is apparently set to focus on the Giro d'Italia this year with fellow Movistar rider Alejandro Valverde leading the team in the Tour de France.
Quintana is currently racing in the Tour de San Luis but is recovering from a stomach problem that occurred in stage one.
If Quintana does not appear in the Tour de France it will be a big blow for Movistar as their only real success in the Tour last year was through him, with yellow jersey contender Valverde finishing eighth overall.
The young star is set to appear in various races this year including the Vuelta a Espana, Tour de Romandie, Volta a Catalunya and the Ruta del sol.
