It almost seems too good to be true for David Moyes. Juan Mata unhappy at Chelsea and wanting a move - Manchester United needing a talented midfielder; the two go together perfectly.
After what has been a difficult start to life at his new club, the pressure is on Moyes to improve his side during the January transfer window and import new life into his otherwise limp squad.
It seems to be something we have mentioned about United for some time now. The need for that playmaker in the midfield to create the chances for the likes of Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie.
Rooney was tried in the midfield area for a while, however, if you have a player of his caliber in your side you would much prefer him to operate as a free role striker; something he executes superbly.
Mata is a talent. Chelsea got a superb player when signing him from Valencia and he has been a pivotal player for them in recent seasons, but he is not a player Jose Mourinho can use. If you fall out of favour with Jose there is only one winner, just look at what he did to the untouchable Iker Casillas at Real Madrid.
It is quite unusual for Mourinho to want to part with such a class act to a rival in the Premier League. The one time I can remember Mourinho doing something similar to this was when he swapped William Gallas for Ashley Cole with Arsenal.
What strikes me with this deal is the amount of money that Jose and Chelsea are asking for - in excess of £30 million.
That's a lot of money for Manchester United to part ways with and should the deal be made for let's say that amount, this places a lot of pressure on Mata.
He will be coming to a club who need somebody to inspire them, he will be required to hit the ground running and make an instant impact.
Not just this, the need to justify his price tag is another factor. Would he be a panic buy? Would he be bought simply because none of their other targets want to join them?
Meanwhile, Chelsea have just inherited a lump sum of money, cruising in the league and now know that they have built a bridge with Manchester United for future deals.
