The agent of Tottenham midfielder Etienne Capoue has accused the north London club of holding up his client's move to Napoli by asking for too much money.

Capoue only arrived at White Hart Lane in the summer, but has fallen out of favour since Tim Sherwood was named as Andre Villas-Boas' replacement in December.

The Frenchman has only made six Premier League starts this season, with youngster Nabil Bentaleb being promoted ahead of him in recent weeks.

Napoli are interested in securing the former Toulouse man's services, but have reportedly been told they will have to cough up £12 million for a player Tottenham paid £9 million for just a few months ago.

Capoue's agent, Martha Fischer, has hit out at Tottenham's valuation, describing it as 'absurd'.

“The problem is not the player or Napoli – Tottenham just want a lot of money," she said. "What they’re asking for is absurd. But we are only on January 21, and there is still hope.”

Capoue is believed to keen on leaving Tottenham in order to secure his spot in France's World Cup squad this summer.

Spurs currently sit in 5th place in the Premier League, level on points with Liverpool who currently occupy the 4th and final Champions League qualification spot.

Tottenham will have the chance to avenge their 6-0 thrashing at the hands of Manchester City that hurried Villas-Boas towards the exit in December when they go head to head at White Hart Lane on Wednesday.
