Barcelona are officially the best producers of elite footballers currently playing across the top five leagues in Europe, according to a study by the CIES Football Observatory, and published on sportingintelligence.com.
The Catalan club's famed La Masia academy has nurtured and developed more first-team stars than any other side in the world, with a total of 44 individuals actively involved in either the Premier League, La Liga, Serie 'A', Ligue 1 or the Bundesliga.
In order for a player to be regarded as a homegrown talent, they must have spent at least three seasons at any one club between the age of 15 and 21, regardless of their nationality.
The top 10 list features three clubs from Spain, two from England, France and Germany, and just the solitary one from Italy.
