With the Winter Olympics scheduled to start on the 7th February in Sochi, Russia, anticipation is continuing to grow across the globe.

This is especially true among the Russian public, who are hoping that the event will herald a new dawn in sporting excellence and achievement for the nation.

Just as the London Olympics of 2012 delivered hope and purpose to an increasingly disinterested demographic of teenagers, there is considerable optimism in Russia that the Winter Games will have a similar impact on the nation’s youth.

While this cannot be guaranteed, the commitment and energy of the Games’ competitors cannot fail to inspire anyone who is watching at home.

For aspiring youngsters, the Games will represent an embodiment of what can be achieved through hard work, commitment and strength of character.

The sight of established starts and brave competitors performing live will also inspire a tremendous sense of pride in viewers, and create a domino effect hat encourages them to pursue their dreams with renewed vigour.

In many instances, this will begin with process of focusing on specific goals, rather than simply enjoying the nature of competitive sport.

More specifically, aspiring winter sports stars may well begin to identify their preferred disciplines while watching their idols. This is a necessary component of succeeding as a
sports star, as accomplished athletes are often forced to dedicate themselves to a specific path in order to optimise their development.

As a general rule, those with athletic ability are able to compete in multiple disciplines, so these individuals must select an area of  competition and focus their efforts on developing relevant skills.

The issue of cost and training

With a specific winter discipline and fixed goals in mind, you will want to commit to a prolonged and dedicated training regime.

While this is how established sports stars have developed their skills and competitive edge, however, this demands a great deal of time and investment in equipment and accessories.

The key is therefore to start by creating a detailed and viable schedule that enables you to reach a competitive level in your chosen field without compromising on your education or the overall quality of life that you enjoy.

In terms of cost, there is a pressing need for you as a young winter sports enthusiast to consider the financial restrictions of your parents. They may not always be in a position to purchase branded sportswear or equipment, regardless of their commitment to support you and empower you to achieve your goals.

Your therefore have two options, with the first being to seek out part-time work where possible and contributing towards your own pursuits.

The bottom line for aspiring sports stars

On a final note, it is crucial that you are able to manage expectations as an aspiring winter sports star. While the sight of your idols in action may inspire a sense of proactive drive and desire, the journey towards professional sporting fulfilment remains littered with obstacles and difficulty.

To overcome this you will need more than hope and a selection of branded garments, as there will be times where you will also need to rely on a strong support network and an inner-reserve of mental toughness.
