While Lewis Holtby continues to drop short of making the first team for Tottenham Hotspur, and he might want force a move to a team without the attacking depth of the North London club.
There have been conflicting reports regarding the return of Lewis Holtby to his former club Schalke 04, but these this has been played down by the German club.
The German international joined in January last season and has made 36 appearances since while netting three goals for the club.
The attacking midfielder went to the club in search of regular first team football and was popular under Andre Villas-Boas but since Tim Sherwood's takeover, he has been out of favour, with Christian Eriksen being preferred.
Perhaps turning to a club with less attacking depth than Spurs would allow him to score on a regular basis while expanding his game while he is still young.
Stoke have reached their inter-league loan limit and can therefore only take Lewis on permanently and will be unable to confirm a loan.
This makes the deal highly unlikely because Tottenham will want to keep hold of him on a long term basis.
