Manchester United have submitted a £35m bid for Chelsea midfielder Juan Mata after heavy speculation was cast over the deal within the last 36 hours, according to BBC Sport.

The Spaniard did not train with the Chelsea first team earlier today, according to reports, or in the preparation for their game against Stoke in the FA Cup on Sunday.

Although Jose Mourinho has stated he does not want Mata to leave, Chelsea have been reported to have said that they could decide to part with the player if an offer of over £40million was submitted. Mata is not content with sitting on the bench, and he shouldn’t be; he has won Chelsea’s player of the season for the last two seasons.

It would seem that since Mourinho returned to Stamford Bridge, Mata’s future at the club has looked more and more doubtful.

It's believed that David Moyes has been given £150million to spend in the coming months, and this could be his first buy, along with Bayern Munich centre back Dante.

Reports in Brazil say that the Brazilian has agreed to join Manchester United, yet the player himself has yet to let on where his future lies, preferring to imply that a deal could happen rather than has happened.

This would be a great signing for United should they pull it off, as they have been prone to simple yet costly mistakes at the back this season.
