Despite all the hype around the possible signing of Juan Mata, it would appear that Manchester United remain massive favourites to sign another top European talent; Bayern Munich’s Dante.

SkyBet make the reigning Premier League champions 5/4 to snap up the Brazilian centre-back by February 1, with Manchester City second-favourites on 7/1.

This comes following heavy speculation that United have agreed a deal with Bayern for the 30-year-old, who has been a mainstay in the Bavarians’ squad in recent times.

Dante himself did hint that there was a chance he could move to join David Moyes’ squad this month, but refused to confirm that it was already a done deal.

The capture of the former Borussia Monchengladbach man, who has amassed 10 caps for Brazil, is likely to be received as an astute piece of business by United, with Dante being considered to be one of the best all-round defenders in Europe at the moment.

City were thought to have been the frontrunners for his signature at one point, but with the bookies’ odds being taken into account it would appear that United have now stolen the march in the race for his signature if he does depart Germany this month.
