The New York Rangers have announced today that they have acquired defenseman Kevin Kelin from the Nashville Predators in exchange for defenseman Michael Del Zotto.

Klein has three points so far this season for the Predators and has played over 40 games in each of the last five seasons with the team.

The Rangers have acquired a reliable, physical defenseman in return for Del Zotto, a much more offensive minded blue-liner.

Predators General Manager David Poile announced the move for Nashville and commented on the upsides they see in the transaction:

"Michael gives us another young, gifted left-handed shooting defenseman with significant offensive upside,” Poile said. “We look forward to his presence on our already talented young blue line, further balancing our defensive corps.”

Del Zotto has had two goals and nine assists this season for the Rangers and has managed 26 goals in five years in New York.

Del Zotto also represented Canada at the 2010 World Championships, although he has not been selected for the Team Canada Olympic roster this year.

He was the 20th overall pick in the 2008 NHL draft.
