Peyton Manning coached Russell Wilson

Russell Wilson revealed today that he got some handy tips when he was growing up - from none other than the man he will face up against in Super Bowl XLVIII.

Speaking to NBC Sports, the second-year star was asked about his opponent and spoke of his admiration for the Denver Broncos play-caller:

"Obviously, Peyton Manning is a Hall of Fame quarterback who I have a ton of respect for," he told reporters.

Before revealing that he had met the QB legend as he was growing up:

"I actually went to the 'Peyton Manning Passing Academy' when I was young.

"I liked him so much back then and I still do,"

And if things had worked out differently the pair could have both been on the Broncos roster in the run up to the Super Bowl.

Wilson spoke in the run up to this years big game about his time spent in Denver during the recruiting process of 2012:

"(I) was in the locker room and I went up and talked to Peyton.

"He said 'Have I seen you before somewhere? I think I've seen you before. How do I know you?"

And while Manning may have struggled to put a face to the name all those years down the line, Wilson had clearly not forgotten that meeting with one of his heroes growing up:

"I was like, 'You actually coached me in the Manning Passing Academy'."

Now in 2014, whether Wilson puts any of those tips to use in New Jersey we will have to wait and see, but one thing is for sure Wilson will be playing against one of his idols come Feb. 2.
