Manchester City are poised to hijack Manchester United’s plans to sign Bayern Munich star Dante if Joleon Lescott leaves the club this month, according to the Manchester Evening News.
The 30-year-old has been the subject of strong interest from the reigning Premier League champions, with David Moyes keen to improve the solidity of his defensive unit, but Manuel Pellegrini has singled him out as a potential target should he need to buy another centre-back before the end of the transfer window.
The Independent report that City will lodge a formal bid for Dante if Lescott leaves the Etihad, as he may well do before February 1, and will then go head to head with United in order to sway the Brazilian star’s future in their favour.
Some sources suggest that United have already approached Bayern over the prospect of signing Dante, and the player himself has admitted that the Red Devils have signalled their intent to lure him away from the Bundesliga.
However as of yet it looks as though the race for his signature is still wide open, and we could easily see a two horse race between two of England’s biggest rivals if Pellegrini decides that Dante is the man he wants.
