Chelsea have confirmed they have reached an agreement with Basel for striker Mohamed Salah.
Salah joined Basel in 2012 and made 47 league appearances for the Swiss champions. The former Al Mokawloon player caught the attention of Chelsea after scoring against them twice in the Champions League this season, including the winner at Stamford Bridge back in November.
Liverpool had been linked with the Egyptian international this month, however the Blues have acted decisively to get their man.
The news will come as a blow for Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers, who is yet to sign any new players in the January transfer window.
Chelsea, who have already completed the signing of Benfica midfielder Nemanja Matic, are believed to have paid around £11 million to secure Salah's services.
His arrival is expected to pave the way for Juan Mata to join Manchester United.
The two clubs are believed to have agreed a fee for the Spaniard, who has fallen out of favour at Stamford Bridge since Jose Mourinho took charge in the summer.
