The Oakland Athletics have agreed a two year, $7m deal with free agent relief pitcher Erin O'Flaherty, reports CBS Sports.

O'Flaherty, 28, is still in rehabilitation following his season-ending Tommy John surgery and isn't due for a return to action until the All-Star break in the 2014 season.

But if he can recover, O'Flaherty could be quite a scoop for the A's.

Prior to his surgery, O'Flaherty had been among the top left handed relievers in the major leagues.

his four-season figures, including a 1.68 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and striking out 160 hitters in 193 innings, proves he is capable of being amongst the best.

He has also held a .220 batting average over the last three seasons.

Once fully fit, O'Flaherty will join Sean Doolittle, Luke Gregson and Ryan Cook as the setup men for closer Jim Johnson.

In order to make room for O'Flaherty on their 40-man roster, Oakland designated outfielder Corey Brown for assignment.
