Manchester United star Wayne Rooney has followed Chelsea ace Juan Mata on Twitter, amid speculation the Spaniard will move to Old Trafford in a deal worth £37 million

In addition to Rooney, Mata has also been followed by Red Devils coach Phil Neville as a deal to bring Mata to Old Trafford appears to be edging ever closer.

The potential signing of Mata will act as a major boost to David Moyes' side after a nightmare season so far.

The Red Devils currently sit in seventh place in the Premier League and are 14 points behind league leaders Arsenal. David Moyes also saw his side knocked out of the Capital One Cup last night, having previously been eliminated from the FA Cup at just the third round stage.

However, with Manchester United set to play Cardiff City at Old Trafford next week, the possible signing of Mata will certainly lift the spirits at the Theatre of Dreams.

Manchester United fans will also be hoping the likes of Robin van Persie and Rooney are fit to return to the side against Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's team.
