Boston Celtics star, Rajon Rondo will be offered a contract extension according to the Toucher and Rich show.
President of Basketball operations for the Celtics, Danny Ainge appeared on the show to reveal that Rondo would receive a new contract and would be paid what he termed 'star money'.
Rondo has only recently come back into the Celtics lineup after missing the first half of the season with an ACL injury. It had also been rumored that Rondo might be traded before the February 20th deadline.
The Celtics are currently 12th in the Eastern Conference and look destined to be involved in the NBA draft lottery.
Once deemed as a trade asset to aid their tanking, it now seems that the Celtics view Rondo as the experienced center-piece to build around with young talent they aim to acquire in the draft.
Rondo has averaged 11 points and eight assists per game through his eight seasons in Boston.
The length and financial details of the contract that Rondo is likely to receive are unclear at the moment but it would appear that he is likely to warrant close to a max deal.
Rondo's current deal is set to expire in 2015.
