Bayern Munich defender Dante has laughed off speculation linking him with a move to Manchester United despite initially suggesting that a deal could be sorted by the end of the month, reports the Manchester Evening News.
The Bayern star, despite playing a key role for the Bundesliga outfit in this campaign, had appeared to put his future in doubt when speaking to a Brazilian radio station.
At the time, Dante said: "I'm still not (a United player). I continue at Bayern, and I thank Manchester United for their interest. It will all be sorted by the end of the month."
However, the defender has now reassured Bayern fans that he was only joking and insisted that he would only leave the club if he wasn't wanted.
When discussing his previous comments, he said: "It was said in jest. I'm at the best club in the world. That would only be interesting if Bayern says to me, 'Go away.'"
It remains to be seen as to whether Manchester United will bring in a new defender in this current transfer window.
The Red Devils appear to be closing in on a move for Chelsea playmaker Juan Mata, but it now seems extremely unlikely that the Spaniard will be joined by Dante at the Theatre of Dreams.
Manchester United will be desperate to secure Champions League qualification this season after a disappointing campaign so far.
