Manchester United sponsors Chevrolet made something of a faux pas on Thursday evening as they prematurely congratulated the club on the acquisition of Juan Mata, while also incorrectly identifying the Chelsea player as a 'striker'.
The Premier League champions have agreed a club record £37 million deal for the Spain international, although the transfer is not expected to be officially completed until Friday afternoon at the earliest.
Chevrolet, understandably, got a little over-excited by Mata's imminent arrival at Old Trafford and tweeted a 'welcome' message to the 25-year-old before the Chelsea No.10 had even undertaken a medical.
Perhaps even more embarrassing, however, was the assertion that Mata is a 'striker' and the Chevrolet FC Twitter account - which has over 27,000 followers - promptly acted to delete all evidence of the post.
But, unfortunately for them, some fast-fingered Manchester United fans were able to grab a screenshot of the tweet before it was taken down. Take a look at the image above.
Chevrolet will become principal sponsors of Manchester United from next season, with their logo to appear on the shirts of David Moyes' side when their new strip is released at the end of the current campaign.
