Manchester United sponsors Chevrolet got themselves into a spot of bother on Thursday evening after jumping the gun somewhat with regards to the club record acquisition of Juan Mata from Chelsea.
The Premier League champions have agreed a £37 million deal to sign Mata, although the move is unlikely to be finalised before the weekend. Chevrolet, however, got a little bit ahead of themselves.
Mata's imminent arrival at Old Trafford prompted the American car company to tweet a welcome message to the Spain international, even though Manchester United have remained silent on his protracted transfer.
The Chevrolet FC Twitter account, which has over 27,000 followers, also proceeded to call Mata a 'striker', before swiftly moving to delete the post. Their sponsorship deal with Manchester United will begin next season.
