Manchester United have confirmed they have reached an agreement to sign Chelsea's Juan Mata for a club-record fee.
The Premier League champions took to their official Twitter account to announce they are closing in on the Spanish playmaker for a fee which is believed to be in the region of £37million.
"CONFIRMED: #mufc has reached agreement with Chelsea for the transfer of Juan Mata for a club-record fee. #mufcmata.
"The deal for Mata is subject to a medical and the agreement of personal terms. A further announcement will be made in due course."
Reports had suggested that Manchester United would only be allowed to complete the deal after Chelsea had signed a replacement - thought to be FC Basel's Mohamed Salah.
However Manchester United have now been given the green light to confirm they have reached an agreement with Premier League rivals Chelsea.
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho confirmed at his pre-match press conference that Mata had been given permission to discuss personal terms with Manchester United.
Mata is now expected to undergo a medical this weekend before joining Manchester United on a four-and-a-half year deal.
The 25-year-old could make his Manchester United debut against Cardiff City on Tuesday.
