Manchester United have submitted a £22.5m bid for Southampton left-back Luke Shaw, according to the Mirror.
On the day that United confirmed the club-record signing of Juan Mata from Chelsea, it was also revealed that David Moyes is keen to secure the services of Blues' target Shaw.
Chelsea recently bid £21m for Shaw, who is a boyhood Blues fan, but United have topped that offer in the hope of opening talks with the 18-year-old's representatives this weekend.
Shaw is widely considered to be the best young full-back in the country – and it's no secret that Moyes is in the market for a new left-back to replace the aging Patrice Evra.
Indeed, the United boss came close to securing the services of Real Madrid full-back Fabio Coentrao at the end of the summer transfer window – the Red Devils have been linked with the Portugal international again this month – while he also failed in his bid to bring Everton's Leighton Baines to Old Trafford.
Baines is now set to sign a new contract at Everton, while Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti is reluctant to sell Coentrao, so Moyes has now turned his attentions to Shaw – and hopes to wrap up a deal for the starlet before the transfer window closes next week.
