What would a 14-year old Indian boy do? Support Indian Cricket just like his elders.
All this time till 2011, the guy whose story this is supported India. It was the time when India had already become the world champions and were reigning world cricket.
With a lot of victories to gasconade of, India toured England for a four match test series, a five match ODI series and a T20.
What would you now expect that guy to do? The most obvious answer to this question is that he would support India and want India to win. But, something very strange, something very staggering happened, even before India’s test series in the UK started, that bloke said “I’LL SUPPORT ENGLAND”.
This was the strangest thing that anyone could ever find, that lad’s family, his friends everyone was confused and rather gobsmacked. They thought that maybe it was just a matter of time and that 14-year-old could start supporting India again.
As India’s nightmare in England finished, Cook’s men were ready to get on the flight to India for a five match ODI series and a T20. This series actually played the role of a “Proof” that the 14-year-old had really developed some love for the English Cricket Team as the bloke literally “wept” when England were clean swept and the happiness could be seen in his eyes when the Brits won the one-off T20 match.
It wasn’t just the English Cricket Team that he loved but the whole of England, English people, British culture, it had all become an important part of the lad’s life and anyone who was an England hater eventually became his enemy and the bloke was ready to make many such enemies because of his love for English Cricket and England as well.
Years passed by, the hope that the lad would stop being an Anglophile had already being dashed.
To be honest, he was smitten by Britain mainly because he started supporting English Cricket. Strange isn’t it? A 14-year-old Indian who is a big Indian fan starts loving England to the extent that even a British citizen won’t.
It all started from his true support for English Cricket and he ended up being in love with the country as well. The truth is that he is probably the biggest English fan you would ever see.
You won’t ever meet such a “True and Optimist” England fan as that lad is. And to repeat again, he doesn’t just love English Cricket now, he loves the WHOLE COUNTRY, and to add to that, he calls himself A BRIT. Wondering who he is? The very writer of this article (A 16 year old now)....
