9. Francis Jeffers

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger proudly claimed his search for a fox in the box was over in 2001, shelling out a total of £10m to persuade Francis Jeffers to leave boyhood club Everton at the age of 20.

Jeffers only scored four Premier League goals in two full seasons at Arsenal before failing to return to Everton on loan, failing to manage expectations in a nomadic career which has seen the England international play as far afield as Australia and Malta.
