18-year-old defender Glen Johnson was the first confirmed signing of Roman Abramovich's Chelsea revolution in 2003 for a fee of £6m, quickly showing a flair for breaking forward in promising early cameos at Stamford Bridge.

Johnson was unable to nail down a permanent starting spot at right-back permanently though, eventually prioritising first-team football as a must three seasons later with a move to Portsmouth, before going on to establish his credentials as a proven performer with Liverpool and England.
