New York Knicks star, Carmelo Anthony has spoken out on his potential free agency destination and it might not include New York.
“That’s the only thing I care about. Anything else is irrelevant to me as far as when it comes to basketball. Championship is the only thing that’s on my mind, is the only thing I want to accomplish, I want to achieve,’’ Anthony revealed on Monday.
The Knicks are currently well out of playoff contention, sitting 10th in the Eastern Conference and with few assets in New York it would seem unlikely that Anthony at 29 could easily build a championship team.
The comments made by Anthony, who scored a Knicks' record 62 points over the weekend, could well add fuel to the free agency rumors which are already swirling.
Anthony could seek a meet up with fellow free agents LeBron James and Dwayne Wade for a super team, he could follow Kobe Bryant's advice and join the Lakers or perhaps he could find a home at a rebuilding team such as the Chicago Bulls or Boston Celtics.
The Knicks, one of the leagues most historic franchises, are without a championship since 1973 and if they plan to build one around Anthony then this could be their wake-up call.
