Now that the signing of Juan Mata is wrapped up Manchester United fans can be happy. But the real confusion has just started for David Moyes. Which formation to play and where to accommodate a player of such quality? Let's take a look at the options he has.

4-4-2

Play Rooney and Van Persie upfront flanked by Mata and Januzaj on either side. The problem with this formation is this reduces the effectiveness of Mata who prefers to play in the hole.

4-2-3-1

Play either of Rooney or Van Persie up-front followed by a creative trio of Januzaj Kagawa and Mata. The problem with this lineup is one of Rooney or Van Persie miss out. Also this is against traditional Manchester United's strength of fast wingers and accurate crossing.

4-3-3

A front three of Mata Rooney and Van Persie interchanging positions. This is the most fluid line-up and could be used to bulk up the midfield against tougher opponents. But United lack central midfielders of required caliber to make this formation work.

3-5-2

The most experimental lineup but has all the players in favoured positions. Rooney and Van Persie up front with Mata just behind them. Evra and Antonio Valencia as wing-backs. But this is a risky lineup and Moyes will not take such risks with United in such a precarious position.

What do you think is the formation best suited to Manchester United?
