Chelsea ready to pay anything to sign Bayern Munich star

Chelsea are ready to rival Manchester United for Bayern Munich midfielder Toni Kroos, according to respected journalist Jan Aage Fjortoft.

The former player-turned-journalist, who was the first to expose Arsenal's interest in Mesut Ozil and Julian Draxler, believes Jose Mourinho has told the Bavarian giants that he will pay anything for Kroos.

Kroos, 24, has emerged as one of the finest creative midfielders in the Bundesliga this season and has attracted the interest of both Manchester United and now the Blues.

Speaking on Twitter, Fjortoft said: "Spoke to an insider in Munich. Said Chelsea apparently have told Bayern to 'name the price' for Toni Kroos. Told player 'wages no problem'."

Interest from Chelsea would be a blow for Manchester United, who were considered heavy favourites to sign the German midfielder should he become available.

David Moyes was present at Bayern's weekend win against Borussia Monchengladbach and was reported to be watching Kroos amongst other stars.

But after the sale of Juan Mata, Mourinho has been left looking for a creative midfielder to replace him and sees Kroos as a good addition.

However, as Chelsea are currently at the limit for foreign players in their 25-man squad, it means someone else will have to leave or face being omitted altogether before Kroos can arrive.
