Here is the list of four of the most expensive transfers by Manchester United which, in my opinion, turned out to be flops...
Nani (£17.3m from Sporting Lisbon) :
When he arrived from Portugal as the fast and talented winger, the expectation was that he was the next Cristiano Ronaldo. Instead, his inconsistency infuriates the Old Trafford crowd.
Anderson (£20.4m from Porto) :
Anderson arrived in England with a lot of promise. Combining skill with composure, a lot of samba magic was expected. However, his performances have been so poor that no-one was sad to see him shipped off to Fiorentina.
Juan Sebastian Veron (£28.1m from Lazio) :
During his final season in Italy, he was one of the finest midfielders of his generation on par with Zinedine Zidane. But his spell with United was a case of the wrong person at the wrong place in the wrong time. With Veron unable to adapt to the pace and physicality of the Premier League, £28.1m was a wasted expense.
Dimitar Berbatov (£30.75m from Tottenham) :
United's previous record signing before Juan Mata. He came to United as the missing piece of the puzzle and to act as the fulcrum in the attacking quartet of himself, Wayne Rooney, Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez. Instead, he ended up as a reject.
