Arsenal look as though they will be missing out on January target Rodrigo, unless they are willing to splash out a whopping €45million.
According to A Bola, the Gunners are very keen on the 22-year-old and his club Benfica need to sell, but a combination of terrific form and his €45million buyout clause have likely put paid to any deal.
Arsene Wenger is reportedly on the lookout for another centre-forward to help ease the burden on, and supplement, Olivier Giroud, as current alternatives Nicklas Bendtner and Lukas Podolski have so far proved unconvincing.
Rodrigo has netted six times in his last six appearances and the report claims this has convinced Benfica coach Jorge Jesus to hold on to him until the summer so as to maintain the club's title challenge, as Arsenal are unwilling to meet his €45million buyout clause.
Benfica's financial model requires them to sell their top stars for large profits - they have already sold Nemanja Matic to Chelsea this month - but they have decided the young forward would benefit them more by staying on and encouraging more interest for a summer sale.
Meanwhile, Arsenal are reportedly also in talks for Schalke youngster Julian Draxler and retain an interest in loaning Real Madrid forward Alvaro Morata.
