Every successful club needs good wingers, which is why players who play out wide command such large transfer fees.
But who are the best wingers in European football right now?
5) Pedro – FC Barcelona
Despite not being the most popular player in the world, Pedro is very respected because he is a great player in his own right.
Very pacey, tactical and a team player, being a Barca youth team graduate, he has become a direct replacement for the departed David Villa - now at Atletico Madrid.
4) Antonio Valencia – Manchester United
Antonio Valencia has emerged as Man United’s best winger, outclassing the likes of Ashley Young and Nani.
Valencia in fact is so good that after the 2011/12 season he was given the No. 7 jersey at the club - a number associated with world-class players at Manchester United.
3) Angel Di Maria – Real Madrid
Being one of the players with the most assists, not only in Spain but in Europe, Di Maria has become a very important player for Los Blancos to the point where if he had to leave, I believe Real Madrid would suffer and struggle to compete in La Liga.
2) Gareth Bale – Real Madrid
Although his favorite position is now the No. 10 - or the playmaker role behind the striker - Bale is traditionally a winger who is capable of producing absolute magic on the pitch.
A future Ballon d’Or winner, in my eyes, and an established world-class player
1) Cristiano Ronaldo – Real Madrid
Simply the best in the world, CR7 is by far and away the best winger in the world. He is a very versatile player but we normally see Ronaldo on Madrid’s left wing and he always preforms in that position.
